It’s a man’s hammer
As a Diyer who has a rubbish 14oz B&Q hammer for years, who has struggled using it.After watching a few videos on the correct hammer technique, I knew I needed a real man's hammer. And I saw the estwing hickory handle 24 oz hammer.Compared to my old hammer it’s a beast. Not only is the weight heavier the handle is longer. But it feels lighter because of the balance.Which allows you to use your wrist to hammer and hammer the nail in. I went from a novice to competent within 30 mins as got use to the hammer. Sometimes it is the tool, and not user error, which is the problemFor those who worry about the wood snapping.A thirsty handle has a higher risk of breaking and wooden tools should be cared for and an important part of that is linseed oil so I scraped the factory varnish off and gave it a sand first and then applied linseed oil for 7 days and it looks beautiful now. When I applied the linseed (after taking the varnish off), the wood was thirsty. A thirsty handle has a higher risk of breaking. So scrape that factory varnish of and apply linseed, you won't regret it.It is comfy to use and the wood absorbs the shock of each blow. I build a shed, framing using 100mm nails for the frame and it hammers them in within 3 to 4 hits.

size of the hammer
the hammer is a lot bigger than expected, its not lightweight and can see it being an issue using it all day. holding it on my tool belt feels fine and almost the same as my spec-ops 22oz hammer. i have found kneeling down it drags along the floor a little bit but bound to happen with longer hammers.getting into the details now:i personally am going to sand down the handle as it has a weird finish on it, this is just my personal opinion but something i noticed.as someone who wears two rings on my right hand i have always prefered hammers with a rubber handle just to reduce the shock in my hand however this handle i find sits nicely into the hand avoiding the rings.i like the hammer but be weary of the size and use it is going to be used for

This is what you'd call a proper framing hammer, the length of the handle compliments the head weight, giving it good balance, making it easy to use.To quote one other reviewer, this is a "SKELPER".Needless to say,I'm happy with the purchase.

OMG I'm in love
at last I have found my perfect match. Somebody nicked my solid forged framing hammer a few years ago and I have not had a big need to replace it, I used a lump hammer to drive home big nails.. four inch and over, but now I am getting old my wrists can't cope with the poor ergonomics of making do with a club hammer....So being a bit old school I wanted a wooden shaft framing hammer, straight claw, with a long curve shaft to aid the swing...this is a magnificent beast and just gorgeous to look at. Way better than my old one, whoever stole it did me a favour, the weight and balance of this is perfect for me...be warned though you need a good arm, it is one heavy knocking stick, well capable of driving in six inch nails

Great product
Good hammer, huge face on it and long shaft, great for skelping nails. Not sure how long the handle will last as i've hit it off a few joist hangers and truss clips but its been pretty good

Go easy with it
Bought middle of January broke in march pulling off a fence board, great swinging hammer, drives nails well just thought it would last long than 6 weeks
