HCM Kinzel Tedco 810100 Gyroscope Retro

OK so it's not as smooth as the one I remember from my childhood, and the finish isn't as good either, but in terms of functionality it does the job and is reasonably robust. I got it for the nostalgia factor so I could explain the conservation of angular momentum to my kids, I don't think the explanation worked, but they do love seeing this in action.Edit: I note that another reviewer states that this doesn't have a string, and uses a toothed strip. This is incorrect, the one I have received is as pictured old fashioned style.

This took me back to my childhood. I wanted a gyroscope to show to the engineering after-school club help to run at our local primary school (six girls and three boys). I visited every toy shop in my local town and didn't find a single one. Shop assistants mostly looked blank (they didn't know what a gyroscope is, but one offered my a telescope or a microscope . . . (you see they both end in "scope"!)This one is nicely made, runs for an acceptably long time and, best of all, has a toothed flexible plastic starter strip to get it running, rather than coiling up string around the shaft.

Purchased because I had one as a child and it baffeled me for some time. These modern ones appear to be of a lot lower quality dispite the advances in engineering over the last 55 years.

Shame the build quality wasnt better.It is ok

This thing was broken out of the box; one of the welds has gone on the narrower gauge ring. Seems to work OK but can't give it to my Daughter at Christmas because it just looks cheap & nasty and, of course, broken!

Good piece of kit the string could have been stronger
