Nice size brackets, ditch the straps.

The price is right, you get 2 pair. They are very sturdy. Get yourself some different straps, you can get a nice set anywhere for $15. If you use the straps it comes with, I'm predicting they will snap. Some of the holes in the plastic I had to turn a flat head screw driver in a bit to open up the hole, no big deal. I even looked at bass pro shop and I was not impressed with what they had to offer, quality and price were both terrible.Nissan Kicks in the photo.

Great Kayak Racks.

Don't listen to the negative reviews! These kayak mounts assembled flawlessly. They appear to be very well made, and sturdy. I didn't feel the need to spend $$$$$ on kayak racks that would get used maybe once every week or two, and am satisfied with what I received. Also comments were made about the straps not being very good quality. I say for the price of these racks , you can buy the straps you want with the money you saved.

They Work !!

Bought these for use on a small utility trailer I modified for various outdoor activities.1 set of racks carries my 2020 Hobie Outback and the other a 2018 Perception Pescador Pro 12.The straps were ok, they seemed to have stretched a little the 1st few trips or the lock mechanism wasn't grabbing and holding properly. Swapped out with my other straps and put these in the storage box for emergency use or for other additional tie down needs. If you use the hand tightening knobs double and triple check your load. Make sure they're tight before you leave to go anywhere, every time. I chose them over the standard nut and bolt mounting for quick, easy removal since I tend to leave the trailer out front of the house locked up and unloaded. I've since decided to eliminate the knobs in case I have a momentary lapse of memory and forget to check. Used some blue Locktite on the threads and have been good since. Each outing with destinations of 70 to 130 miles away, I arrived with the mounting hardware loose. If I didn't have extra straps and security measures in place, I may or may not have lost my kayaks. My application may have hindered the knobs from working properly, not sure why that would be the case, but strange things happen. With all of that said, a buddy of mine has the same racks on the "lumber" rack that he built for his Toyota Tacoma and hasn't had any problems at all. He used the traditional mounting hardware to begin with and uses the straps that came with this set. His satisfaction is what convinced me to purchase these. Aside from what I would consider minor hand ups, they've been a great cheap way to transport our kayaks.

Had these for 3 years so far...

Purchased these in 2019. They've been on hundreds and hundreds of days, weeks, months of drives with my kayak on (and many months without because until the first snow I usually just keep them on) and most of those trips I've only used the straps they came with to secure my kayak. With all of those trips, I've hit insane wind and rainstorms on numerous occasions - and they've held up through it all. I had a friend pick these out for me when I first bought my kayak - he picked out my roof racks too.I will say - the thicker the roof rack, the better durability these have, which isn't something everyone considers when first purchasing these. My boyfriend just got these (or something identical) and his roof racks were a bit worrisome with these j-racks. We drove three hours up north to go camping a few weeks ago, and the yaks got a little nervously loose on the three hour drive there and on the way back. With that being said, if we hadn't stopped to adjust them we probably would've still made it there and back fine, but it is something to think about. All in all, three years later and hundreds of miles transporting my kayak, these still hold incredibly strong. Every time I put the kayak on my car I do my own safety test of trying to move the j-rack, and every time it still holds just as strong as it did when I first got them. 100% worth the money!

These are well worth the money and very sturdy but get different straps.

These work great on my 2003 4 door blazer. It fits. The kayaks that we have are an Ascend FS10 and a Future Beach Fusion 10. It was easy to assemble. Some people say that it's hard. Don't let them scare you. If you can build a small legos set for kids ages 10+ then you'll have the mechanical prowess to put these together and install them on your car.Times for everything assuming you are using all four J-bars for two kayaks and only one person doing the labor:-First time assembly and installation to the roof: 1 hour-Loading two kayaks first time: 30 minutes (to figure out how you wanna strap them)-Unloading two kayaks: 5 minutes-Re-loading two kayaks: 10 minutes-Removing the J-bars from the rack: 10 minutes-Reinstalling the J-bars to the rack: 10 minutesThey don't require full disassembly to be removed from the roof which is why removal and re-installation is so fast. They are extremely sturdy. I loaded and strapped down my kayaks and then shook the kayaks and watched the crossbars of my roof bend up and down. There was ZERO play in the kayak and the J-bars.Now for the bad:I didn't trust the cam straps. I loaded the kayaks, strapped them in, and then shook the kayaks and was able to pull the straps loose. Considering how much more expensive brand name J-hooks are versus how cheap reliable straps are, I can't in good conscious knock a star off. This is still a 5/5 star product for the money, but you need to order better straps. I use cheap tow strap that I had lying around in my garage but I don't recommend those since people warn that tow straps can warp plastic kayaks. I've used tow straps the past few outings but this season I plan on investing $15 into a better set of cam straps.EDIT TO ADD LINK TO REPLACEMENT STRAPS:I replaced the straps that came with this product with these. I was able to carry my kayak on a 4 hour trip averaging a speed of 60 mph to 70 mph, using these J-bars and those cam straps. I left my review of those. They are a 5/5 product.SmartStraps 146 Green 10' 900 lbs Capacity Cambuckle, (Pack of 4)
